Participant Feedback
In Their Own Words
Maziah Ramli
Retired teacher, Petaling Jaya
"I attended the one-day workshop in April and honestly, it was the first time someone sat down and explained my bank statements to me in a way I could follow. The workbook was large enough to read without my glasses, which sounds like a small thing but it made a big difference."

Retired accountant, Cheras
"Oddly enough, even though I worked in finance before retiring, I found the toolkit programme useful. Having everything laid out in a planner I can carry around β the checklists especially β helped me build habits I had honestly let slip. The community group is also a good place to ask the sorts of questions you feel embarrassed to ask elsewhere."
Later-Life Toolkit β March 2025
Abdul Karim
Retired civil servant, Shah Alam
"My wife and I attended the Literacy Programme together. What I appreciated most was that the facilitator never rushed. When someone β sometimes me β needed something explained again, it happened without any fuss. We completed all six sessions and both received certificates. My daughter was rather impressed."

Priya Nair
Retired nurse, Bangsar
"I was hesitant before coming β I was not sure it was for someone like me who does not have any complicated finances. But the session was genuinely helpful even so. Knowing how to organise and read your documents properly has value regardless of what you have."

Henry Tan
Retired engineer, Subang Jaya
"The community sessions in the Toolkit programme are informal and relaxed. No one is there to sell you anything. People just share what they have found helpful and ask questions. I have met several people in a similar stage of life and that has been genuinely worthwhile beyond the educational content itself."

Zarina Ibrahim
Homemaker, Ampang
"I spent most of my adult life leaving the paperwork side of things to my husband. After he passed, I had no idea where to start. The workshop gave me a straightforward way to begin going through documents. The facilitator was kind about where I was starting from."

Participant Journeys in Detail
Three accounts shared with permission β each describing a different starting point and what shifted after attending a Stashwell programme.
Roslan, 67, had recently retired from 30 years in government service. He had a stack of documents he did not fully understand β EPF notices, insurance papers, and old utility records β and no clear picture of what he actually held.
The one-day workshop walked him through identifying and categorising documents. The facilitator spent extra time on EPF-related materials since several participants shared the same questions. He left with a filing structure he set up that same weekend.
Three months later, Roslan enrolled in the Literacy Programme. He describes now having a clear picture of his documents and a monthly routine that keeps things in order. "I no longer feel lost when something arrives in the post," he told us.
Cecilia, 71, had moved in with her daughter after her husband's passing and wanted to understand her own monthly spending β not to cut back dramatically, but simply to know where things stood without relying on others to tell her.
She enrolled in the Toolkit programme, drawn by the large-print monthly planner. Having a physical tool she could fill in with a pen β rather than a phone or computer β made it practical for her daily habits.
After two months with the planner, Cecilia reported that she no longer felt uncertain about her monthly situation. "It is not complicated. I just needed a system that fits the way I live," she said at a community session in May 2025.
